Save The Internet

I've been reading for that last couple of months about a new push by large coporations to create a high speed internet where companies would pay our ISPs (Internet Service Providers) more money to make the connection to their customers faster. Currently, this type of system is not in place, however, the impact creating such an environment is huge. Internet neutrality is one of the greatest benefits of the Internet. We can pretty much say and do (within the limits of the law) whatever we want. Many people do not understand all of of the benefits of having a Neutral Internet. Read more about it at http://savetheinternet.com/.

Some geek programming humor

I ran across this from a friend of mine. Thought it was pretty funny.

The proliferation of modern programming languages (all of which seem to have stolen countless features from one another) sometimes makes it difficult to remember what language you’re currently using. This guide is offered as a public service to help programmers who find themselves in such dilemmas.

C
You shoot yourself in the foot.

C++
You accidentally create a dozen clones of yourself and shoot them all in the foot. Providing emergency medical assistance is impossible since you can’t tell which are bitwise copies and which are just pointing at others and saying, “That’s me, over there.”

White Water Rafting in West Virginia on the Gauley River

Wow, what a great time. This trip was a two day trip with 6 of us coming up from Virginia Beach to hit both the Upper and Lower Gauley in West Virginia. If you ever want to take a trip white water rafting, I highly recommend going with the company called Class VI River Runners.

Here are a couple of the pictures in my gallery:

We camped between the Upper and Lower Gauley the night of September 30, 2006.

Virginia Beach... Tech Fraud?

Ok, I never thought this day would come.... Virginia Beach not only is the site of a major crime event, but it's related to technology. I thought this area was only know for the military and you'd think something like this would only happen in the bigger cities. :)

Basically, Virginia Beach was listed in Yahoo news and slashdot on how an ATM was reprogramming last week to dispense more money than it should. Here's the links to the articles from Slashdot and Yahoo.

Gallery Updated

Wow... did that take a while. I just finished uploading picture from Peru in 2001 and adding descriptions to each of the pictures, along with photos of my house prior to all the repairs in 2002 and some pictures (although some of them dated) of my family and friends. Take a look and let me know what you think.

Manhunt on Virginia Tech's Campus

Ran across this article on the net from my old alumni. I'm a huge hokies fan, but Blacksburg, Virginia isn't the type of town that you'd see something like this. Usually it's because we have a football player that is getting in trouble. :)

Here's an excerpt from CNN.com:

Manhunt nabs 'weird' escaped prisoner
Virginia inmate accused of killing hospital guard, sheriff's deputy

BLACKSBURG, Virginia (AP) -- Weird, but harmless. That's what some people around the Virginia Tech campus once thought of the man now accused in two fatal shootings, the subject of a manhunt that shut down the campus for hours on the first day of the semester.
